Blow hard Billo vs. Ron Paul September 12, 2007

Bill O’Reilly has to be one of the biggest blow hards on Fox news.

In this story, he faces off against Ron Paul. Paul is an interesting candidate, I don’t necessarily agree with his anti-federalism approach but he does score on calling the administration what it is, incompetent.

Anyhow read the article and then watch the video. I note that O’Reilly’s main tool is to try and outshout his opponent. O’Reilly is such a charming fellow that he has even gone to the lengths to cut off the microphone of someone he disagrees with.

Every time you run across a clip of the guy you can feel the insecurity rising because deep down, he knows he’s wrong.

I'm Leaving Blogger February 12, 2007

I’m leaving Blogger. You might ask why so I’ll explain.

A well known British atheist by the name of Nick Gisburne had his YouTube account deleted and all his videos wiped because someone objected to his slide show of quotes from the Muslim holy book. It wasn’t the fact that he quoted it, but the fact that the quotes all showed Islam to be a not so peaceful religion. For that YouTube hosed his account.

Many of you might be aware that Blogger is now owned by Google, as is YouTube. In protest I deleted all my YouTube videos, and I’m closing this blog in few weeks. Maybe I’ll change my mind if someone from Google wants to answer this post. If not I won’t be posting anything new here anymore. It’s sad it had to come to this, but Google used to have the motto ‘do no harm’. Now they’re becoming much to corporate and I think we all need to re-evaluate our relationship with Google.

Here’s the link to my new blog. Please update your bookmarks/favorites. While you’re at it, why not yank your blog away from Blogger and head on over to WordPress.

And did I mention, you can import all your blogger posts to WordPress.

A great U2 and Bush Mashup on YouTube February 10, 2007

Check this out.

And there’s more, as Bush does Lou Reed’s “The Wild Side”

George W. Bush and Tony Blair (No no, not Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder in a tennis match) singing “Endless Love”

And then Tony Blair by himself singing that 1981 Clash hit “Should I Stay or Should I Go”. This pre rock-the-casbah.

Unfortunately this one is for real. Colin Powell singing the Village People’s “YMCA”

So there really is some humor in politics.

The Bud ad that didn't make it to the Superbowl February 6, 2007

Let me first state that I consider Budweiser, the self named King of Beers to be very much like water. I normally drink Heineken or Bass Ale (I picked up the Bass Ale habit from my former network guy who is now the IT director at the AG’s office).

Anyhow, in all its glory and watch it while you can because the DMCA bullshit is going on at YouTube:

As a die-hard flaming liberal I love this little parody video. Young Republican indeed.

The transformation is funny – kind of like An American Werewolf in London.

The first is Mr. Deity. Some truly funny videos if you have any background reference in Judeo-Christian religions. I mean, come on – am omniscient and omnipotent god needing peoples help? Why that’s ludicrous. BTW, this is also available as a podcast so if you have iTunes installed I strongly suggest you subscribe to it.

The other is God, Inc. This one is a little more about the day to day operations of the company.

It is my sincere hope that Christian fundamentalists somehow find out about these great videos and work themselves into a foaming at the mouth, self destructive frenzy.

On Aliens January 10, 2007

I’m talking the kind from outer space. Here’s an interesting little video for you to chew on. Supposedly it’s from 1972 but the reference to Close Encounters of the Third Kind indicates that this video was produced sometime after 1977. And around 50 minutes in he mentions the end of the Reagan administration which puts us clearly at 1989. The whole video is a little suspicious to me. But not because I believe, but because much of it sounds too far fetched. Put it this way, this video is the omnibus of crazy.

What’s interesting is the theory that our centimeter RADAR can bring down alien spacecraft. This is highly suspect since wouldn’t it make sense if alien spacecraft are capable of traversing large distances of space at speeds approaching or faster than light, would they not need technology to see whats in front of them, something like our RADAR.

Granted, they seem to have a firmer grasp of physics than we have. For example, in the video its stated that aliens have to be kept in Faraday cages, otherwise they can walk through walls. Interestingly Faraday cages are employed in a common medical scanning technology, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) since an MRI machine uses both high magnetic fields and a radio frequency generator to image our insides. That means the room has to be radio frequency (RF) quiet.

Regarding walking through walls, matter as we know it isn’t what we think. For example, pick up a rock. It has weight (due to gravity), and feels solid. In reality the strong and weak nuclear forces interact to make that rock appear so to us, but there’s so much empty space in that rock that it might as well be light years between atoms and particles in said rock.

Based on the above, it would be interesting if we could conquer the strong and weak nuclear forces beyond gross functions like fission and fusion.

Look at the spacecraft drawings in this video, The Roswell Incident. It was produced in 1995.

Doesn’t it look suspiciously like an F-117 stealth aircraft. It certainly does.

This leads me to the point that maybe our alleged visitors aren’t alien per se. Maybe they didn’t travel in space but in time or even space/time.

I don’t know why but I like They Might Be Giants (TMBG) and Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Here’s TMBG with “Istanbul”

And Squirrel Nut Zippers “Put a Lid On It”

And after watching Woody Allen’s “The Curse of the Jade Scorpion” I think I know where TMBG and SNZ get some of their influence. Come to think of it, the generic music tracks sound an awful lot like SNZ.

So while my mainstream musical tastes are R&B/Soul/Neo-soul my tastes do wiggle out into other things. While I’m thinking about it here’s some more stuff I like:

The Cure

Dave Matthews Band

I think in the case of DMB I love the above track because it builds up layer by layer. And if you saw my iTunes library, you’d see that I love guitar and bass. Oh don’t get me wrong, brass is so cool, and I love synth too. But the main component of my library is guitar.
