Why can't a NOM'er answer questions? August 13, 2009

Here’s the recent email exhange I had with Christopher Plante, Executive Director of the National Organization for Marriage in Rhode Island.

Good Morning Tony,

Thank you for your note. I appreciate your question, however as you can imagine I am very busy with final preparations for Sunday’s event. If you would like to re-send your email on Tuesday August 18th as a way of reminder I will be happy to find the appropriate time to respond. Until then I cannot do your question justice.

Thank you.

Chris

Mr. Plante,

You are quoted as saying:

It’s held by an organization that, whatever you think of our politics, is not religious, we accept folks of all faiths and of no faith. If gays and lesbians want to come in with their children, they are more than welcome to come. And make sure they find me, and we’ll have a Coke and sit down and talk.

If your organization isn’t so religious than why is the event being held on a diocesan property? And why does NOM continually bring up natural order arguments when this isn’t about religion? And more to the point, when do your civil rights trump mine or those of us who wish to marry in RI?

Tony

Of particular interest is Plante’s weaseling out of answering my questions. I’m anxiously awaiting the 18th. I may just stop by his office here in Providence and record his answers on video. That would be fun.
